Krispy Kreme: Coffee and Doughnut Pairing

I recently had the opportunity to attend a Doughnut and Coffee Pairing event at Krispy Kreme! It was truly a sensory experience as their coffee experts and chefs led us through the tour of doughnuts and coffee.  Throughout the event, I learned that Krispy Kreme has the best coffee and doughnuts because they have experts working for them that  pay close attention to detail. The coffee expert that we met previously worked for Starbucks and now works at Krispy Kreme. You could tell that he was serious about coffee and a perfectionist.  He explained how Krispy Kreme intentionally has only 3 blends of coffee because they want a clear focus. They may later extend to other blends, but for now, they have invested in high quality beans and a good process to make the three crave-worthy blends of House, Dark, and Decaf.

One thing that surprised me is that they seek out the best beans, but it’s not as simple as that. Many factors can alter the taste of a bean, including even weather changes. They employ a crew of professionals to identify and handle such variations so that every cup of coffee has the taste that we all love and crave. I had no idea that so much expertise and effort went into the coffee that we drink, but they inspired me to want to become a food scientist!

Another thing that I learned is that the dark blend has slightly less caffeine than the house blend. Is that a surprise to you too?

• House Decaf and Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled

 

• Dark Roast and Original Glazed
