Are you on a dairy-free diet? I was suddenly thrust into a dairy-free diet shortly after I gave birth to my youngest child who is allergic to dairy. It sounds simple to avoid dairy until you realize that dairy is in almost everything. It was unbelievable to me when I started to read labels and realized that milk or "traces of milk" were listed on food labels for grocery items that I didn't expect, including everything from bread to chicken broth to oatmeal. The combination of being overwhelmed by a young baby and learning a new diet was stressful. I survived on green smoothies for almost a month before I found a support group on Facebook that contained thousands of other breastfeeding moms on dairy-free diets. These moms were so wonderful about helping me with my dairy-free life. In today's post, I want to pay it forward by sharing some trendy dairy-free pizza ideas that will rock your dairy-free world!
Almost every dairy-free mom will tell you that they miss pizza. However, there are easy dairy-free pizza options out there if you know where to look.
Tips for Ordering Dairy-Free Pizzas
1. Find restaurants with allergen menus.
There are a few pizza shops that keep their allergen menus online. For instance, Pie Five Pizza, Papa Johns, and Domino's all have transparent allergen menus so that you are able to order a dairy-free pizza. If you go with Papa Johns or Domino's though, you have to order a specific crust that is dairy-free and there are no cheese alternatives, so you'll have to order your pizza without cheese. If you want a dairy-free cheese, Pie Five Pizza is your best bet. They are my favorite pizza shop for dairy-free pizzas because it's so easy to build a pizza that resembles a "real" pizza thanks to the Daiya dairy-free cheese. There is actually a combinatorial explosion of dairy-free pizza possibilities because they have many toppings. I'll share five crave-worthy pizza ideas shortly.
2. Confirm that the items are dairy-free with the restaurant.
When you place your order, let the restaurant know that you are on a restricted dairy-free diet. Ask them to confirm that your pizza will not be exposed to dairy. They should then change their gloves and make sure that the dairy-free pizza is made without any problems.
3. Get creative!
My favorite pizza shop is Pie Five Pizza because there are many dairy-free options. Let me share five that will make you crave a dairy-free pizza for dinner tonight!
Start with your favorite dairy-free crust and then customize your pizza with these dairy-free pizza ideas:

It is a challenge to go dairy-free or vegan in today's world where milk seems to have found a way into almost everything that we eat. However, with time and experience, you will realize that there are many dairy-free options out there. You just need to know where to look. My baby is almost a year old and I have to say that I am incredibly grateful to my dairy-free moms support group and Pie Five Pizza for making it easier for me to enjoy my dairy-free life.
