Summer Fun Idea: Have you heard of FREE TV?

For better or worse, there are things that change over time. It seems like most things go up in price. The price of food, gas, healthcare, and more has gone up dramatically in the past decade. On the other hand, technology has helped to improve the quality of our lives and reduce the cost of many things. Email, e-vites, and social media have helped us conveniently keep in touch with friends and family while also saving on stamps.  Computers and internet connections have allowed many people to telecommute and save on transportation costs.  FaceTime and Skype have allowed us to better connect with loved ones who are far away while cutting long-distance phone bills. In today's post, I'm going to tell you about another trendy technological solution that may help to improve the quality of your life while also saving you money - ditching cable and replacing it with an inexpensive hybrid solution of an ANTOP Digital TV Antenna in combination with Netflix.

If you follow regularly, you know that I am a blogger for Netflix. I am a huge Netflix fan because they offer great content that is available 24/7 that I may watch on my own schedule. They have some of the trendiest shows such as House of Cards, Kimmy Schmidt, Gilmore Girls, Arrested Development, and more. Plus, the price is a fraction of the cost of cable TV at just $7.99 to $11.99/month, depending on the plan.  You have to love technology!  It's a nice alternative to cable TV.   Now, while I love Netflix, I realize that there is a major shortcoming as the streaming service does not include local news and popular weekly sitcoms such as Modern Family, Big Bang  Theory, and more. It also does not include Wild Kratts and a few other popular shows that children love.  Well, I have a solution for you that will rock your world - Netflix in combination with a Digital TV Antenna. The antenna has a one-time cost to purchase, but no monthly bill!  Let me share my personal experience.

In my research, I learned that 9 out of 10 households are able to receive free digital and HDTV signals with the proper antenna.   I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro which is a really great place to live for access to HDTV signals. I decided to try an ANTOP antenna since they have great reviews.  It's really interesting because the experts at ANTOP offer a variety of indoor and outdoor antennas with sleek designs.  They have everything from paper thin antennas to heavy duty antennas for the outdoors. Here are some examples:
Indoor models
• The popular Paper Thin, featuring a lightweight, ultra-thin .02 of an inch design
• Curved and Flat Panels models, sleek and elegant
• And, the more traditional Ring model with telescoping antenna

New Concept Outdoor Models
• The Wing, Butterfly and Flat Panel, feature slim compact designs and utilize innovative weather-resistant materials.
• Ideal for the Do-It-Yourself crowd, these outdoor models are engineered for easy installation.
Personally, I tried the AT-400BV model that is an indoor/outdoor antenna and was shocked that it provided crisp pictures for my favorite channels.  It's really amazing and I think that you are going to be impressed when you learn what happened.

First, my husband pulled  it out of the box and installed it.  This took approximately 10 minutes.  He installed it on the back of our TV.

We plugged the antenna in and our television suddenly came to life with crystal clear images from a variety of TV stations!

We gained 20+ channels as shown below!

It's really nice because we have all of the basic channels - NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, PBS, PBS Kids, and more. This is a great example of where technology has evolved and actually helps us to save money.

In addition to the surprise that we could gain access to so many channels with great quality, another great surprise was the PBS Kids channel. This is a new channel for North Texas that was launched in December 2016.  It offers kids shows 24/7 to provide access to popular, curriculum-based programs from PBS. They have shows that my boys love, including Odd Squad, Wild Kratts, Daniel Tiger, and more. (Netflix dropped Wild Kratts last year. It was my oldest son's favorite show, so we are excited to have free access to this show through our antenna!) It was an unexpected perk that my boys will be able to watch educational shows on this new channel.

My family is very happy with our new set up.  Our hybrid setup with an HDTV antenna and Netflix is brilliant.  We have access to our favorite shows and it is so inexpensive.  The HDTV antenna is a one-time cost and then Netflix is just $11.99/month. We couldn't be happier with our setup.
