DIY Craft: How to Make Kindness Rocks with Notes using Crayola Silly Scents

DIY Craft: How to Make Kindness Rocks with Notes using Crayola Silly Scents
Kindness Rocks have popped up everywhere. The concept is simple. Decorate a rock, hide it, and then your kindness rock brightens someone's day when they find it.  If you find a rock, you may keep it or re-hide it. It's up to you. In today's post, we'll share a fun DIY project to add little notes to your kindness rocks that have a special twist - they are created using Crayola Silly Scents products!

Supplies
Crayola has a line of products called, Crayola Silly Scents. This trendy product line includes markers, colored pencils, and crayons.  They include a variety of scents in the different packages. Some examples include cherry, strawberry, cinnamon, orange, popcorn, lemon, banana, lime, watermelon, green apple, pine, beach, blueberry, cola, wild berry, grape, fruit smoothie, fruit punch, cotton candy, licorice, coconut, fresh air, root beer, and flower. The products are available at stores nationwide or on the Crayola website.

These are the supplies that we use:
  • Rocks
  • Crayola Acrylic paints
  • Metallic paint pens
  • Mod Podge
  • Mailing Labels (blank)
  • 1 package of Crayola Silly Scents Colored Pencils (12 count)
  • 1 package of Crayola Silly Scents Washable Markers (12 count)
  • 1 package of Crayola Silly Scents Washable Slim Markers (10 count)
Directions
1. Find rocks
Anything goes, but smooth rocks that are approximately 5" are a good choice.  You want them to be big enough to decorate with a fun design, but not so big that they are hard for a little one to pick up and carry.  We go on hikes and find our perfect rocks.

2. Paint
You want a paint that stands out. For instance, we use Crayola Acrylic Paints.

3. Seal the paint to make it shiny
The biggest trick to making your rocks look really nice is to seal them. We use Mod Podge to seal the rocks

4. Accessorize
Accessories are a great way to make your rocks pop!  Use a glue gun to add some Rhinestones or Wiggle Eyes.  The special touches will be appreciated and treasured by little rock hunters!

5. Create a Note with Crayola Silly Scents
Use the trendy Crayola Silly Scents Washable Markers to write a note that includes a fun message and the name of the "Rocks" Facebook Group that you are in. The finder of your rock may post a picture in the group to report that they found your rock.  For instance, if you search Facebook for "[Your Town] Rocks", you will probably find a group in your area.  In the Dallas/Fort Worth metro, there are rock finding groups for almost every town, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Keller, Hurst, Denton, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Southlake, Flower Mound, and the list goes on!

The label stickers make it easier to write the Facebook group that you participate in because it's often difficult to paint the information onto small rocks.  Plus, it's fun to create the labels with the trendy Crayola Silly Scents markers. The fun scents add an extra dimension to the artistic experience for our children.  My son's favorite is the Root Beer scent.  My favorite is the Lemon.  There are so many trendy scents that you may even combine the scents into your rock design.  Draw a lemon on a rock and then coordinate it with a label that uses the lemon scented marker!  The possibilities are endless!
