The Butterfly Festival at the Shops at Willow Bend (May 3rd to 12th, 2019)

I'm excited about today's post because it combines my love for creating happy childhood memories with a charitable cause that makes a big difference in our community. The Shops at Willow Bend are hosting The Greater Plano Kiwanis Club Annual Butterfly Festival in Grand Court May 3 – 12, 2019. Visitors can walk through a conservatory filled with flowering plants and observe more than 1,000 flying butterflies in a natural setting.

Here are the important details:
  • What: The Butterfly Festival
  • Where: The Shops at Willow Bend (in the Grand Court)
  • When: May 3rd to 12th, 2019 on Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Price: Tickets are available for purchase at the display : adults $6.00 and children $5.00. Children under the age of 2 are free with adult purchase.
Personally, I visited with my children and they loved it.  They each wore butterfly wings and felt like they were in another world as the butterflies fluttered around them.

They each received q-tips soaked in Gatorade to feed butterflies. It was surprisingly easy for them to attract the butterflies to the food. Even my toddler successfully fed several butterflies!  Seriously, look below at his chubby little toddler hand that is reaching out to feed a butterfly.  It's adorable and the skill level involved is accessible to toddlers!

Here is another one of his magical moments. It was fun to see him mesmerized by the butterflies!

The proceeds from this event benefit The Greater Plano Kiwanis Club.  This group is amazing because they help so many children, especially children in our community. For instance, past contributions include The Children's Miracle Network, Boys & Girls Club, Plano Food Pantry, Special Olympics, scholarships, and more. Visit here for more details about this generous organization. They truly do amazing work.
