Recipe: Nutrient Rich Green Smoothie #Recipes #Pregnancy

Recipe: Nutrient Rich Green Smoothie
I had bad nausea throughout the first half of my pregnancy. It was challenging to keep anything down, so let me tell you that I truly only ate for nutrition.  It wasn't fun to eat anything. I worked with my doctor to identify nutrient rich foods to try to pack into my diet.  It was a rough experience because I didn't always keep the food down.  I eventually found that smoothies (less chewing) were the easiest way for my to pack lots of veggies and fruits into my limited diet. I will be honest that the smoothies didn't always stay down, but they usually worked out for me.

In today's post, I'll share my favorite green smoothie recipe. You'll notice that it features a trendy shaker bottle from Rubbermaid. I really like this container because it comes with the five-sided paddle ball.  This is perfect, especially when you have days where you take a sip of your smoothie and then realize - this isn't happening! The shaker bottle is easy to place in the fridge until your nausea passes and you are ready to try again. Just shake with the shaker ball in it when you are ready to try mealtime again.

Ingredients:
  • 8 ounces of your favorite Green Juice (I buy a bulk size Green Juice from Costco or the large size bottle from Trader Joe's and keep them in the fridge for smoothies)
  • 2 cups of kale
  • 1 large banana
Directions
1. Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend on high speed until all of the ingredients are well blended.  Reduce or add the amount of water if you prefer a thicker/thinner smoothie.

2. Optionally add up to 1 cup of blueberries to the smoothie for a sweeter taste.
