Celebrate the Change in Season with FabFitFun + Support Christina Applegate's Foundation

Fall has always been my favorite season. I love the change in weather and clothing. I love that menus are once again filled with apple, pumpkin, and squash-themed items. My latest tradition for the new season is to open a new FabFitFun box.  If you follow regularly, you know that the FabFitFun curators are talented and never disappoint.  Further, this month's box is extra special to me because it features Christina Applegate and her foundation that assists women to understand how family history, BRCA-gene mutation, age, and lifestyle can put women at risk for breast cancer.  She has done amazing work that I'll also tell you about in today's post.

Let's start with Christina Applegate and her Right Action for Women program.  I've always loved that the FabFitFun boxes include a magazine or newspaper with both information about the products and fun features.  The magazine in the Fall box resonated with me because the interview with Christina is personal. Christina is a breast cancer survivor.  Personally, I have a genetically high risk for breast cancer.  My doctor said that it's most likely a when rather than an if, but that early detection is key.  This is exactly what Christina is trying to help women to understand - early detection is the key to living a full, long life.  Right Action for Women (RAW) is committed to educating women to understand how family history, BRCA-gene mutation, age, and lifestyle can put you at risk for breast cancer.  Not only this, but they have provided financial assistance to more than 650 women for MRIs.  The fact that she focuses on advanced MRI screenings stood out to me because I am in this demographic that needs expensive MRI screenings. I am in my early 40's and my breast tissue is still dense, so it is difficult to analyze with a 3D mammogram.  My radiologist and doctor said that it is like trying to find a snowflake in a snowstorm because the tissue is so dense. An MRI is very expensive and may not be necessary for everyone, but it is necessary for me given my risk factors.  I have to admit that the cost was shocking to me. I am lucky to have insurance that covers the majority of the bill. Still, the remaining amount that is not covered is an annual expense that I plan in my budget. I also plan in advance to use my vacation time since the hospital visit for the MRI requires me to take a half day off from work. Personally, knowing that so many women were able to have MRIs thanks to Christina's foundation was emotional to me because I know that MRIs are valuable for high risk women like me, but also very expensive. I've often talked to my husband about how expensive it is and that I wonder if some women skip their screenings because of the cost. When Christina's interview revealed how she is helping women to understand risks and also provide financial assistance for their MRIs, I was just so happy to know that someone is helping.  Christina is an inspiration to me and I'm thrilled that she collaborated with FabFitFun on this box to support her foundation.

Now, that my mascara has run down my cheeks after feeling so touched by the cause that this box supports, let's talk about the trendy contents in the FabFitFun box.  The FabFitFun box sells for $49.99. While each box varies slightly in content, mine was valued at $343.97.

The first item is the Vince Camuto Luck Tote in Black. (It also comes in Red Desert.) This vegan leather tote is incredibly soft and seems like it was created to fit my body perfectly.  I have to carry my Macbook between work and home, so it's nice that it comfortably slides right into this bag. Here is a closeup of this soft vegan leather bag.

Here is another view. The tote retails for $128 which makes the investment of $49.99 for this FabFitFun box worthwhile.  Yet, there are many more items too!  (PS - Some readers receive this item in one of two colors while others receive a high quality Crown Brush 6 Piece  Brush Set instead.)

Sticking with the theme of how I take the bag above to work, the box includes a Luna Rica Bar which is great to stash in my bag for a mid-morning snack. It's a good portion size and I love that the Luna Rica Bars are packed with nutrition from ingredients such as the dates and nuts in the Salted Caramel Nut variety that I tried below.

Of course, we experience a lot of rain in the heart of Texas at this time of year, so the Catherine Malandrino Umbrella was absolutely perfect for me! Depending on your box, you'll receive either the Red Floral or Black/White Floral print.   I love that it is compact to fit into my bag above, but also opens wide enough to offer meaningful protection from the rain. The retail value is $39.99.

The next couple of items are great for cold and rainy days like today. The Alfred Teapot is a ceramic teapot that is designed by the L.A.-based tea spot Alfred Tea Room.It has a stainless steel lid, a wide-lipped infuser and a dripless spout.  The retail value is $26.  (PS - Some readers receive this trendy teapot and others receive an Alfred French Press.)

The Simply Whimsical Tea Towels are also fantastic. They are soft and absorbent. I love the playful gray patterns. These retail for $14.99.

The last few items are beauty items.  Something that I have loved about my previous FabFitFun boxes is that the curators include quality skincare products.  I've found new products that eventually become part of my regular routine after trying them.  Even better though, FabFitFun usually includes full size products so that you have time to really test them out.  The first skincare product in my box is the Grown Alchemist Hydra-Restore Cream Cleanser: Olive Leaf & Plantago extract.  As someone with very dry skin, this was a perfect fit.  I've struggled with dry skin since I was a teenager. I wasn't sure what to expect from this face wash, but it turned out to be amazing! I love that it cleanses and conditions my skin. My skin feels soft and looks radiant after using it. I wish that I would have known about this product sooner!  However, that's what I love about the FabFitFun team -  they always manage to introduce me to new products that rock my world!    The retail price for this cream cleanser is $49. (PS - Some readers may receive the product that I received or the Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Day Cream: Camellia & Geranium Blossom or the Grown Alchemist Polishing Facial Exfoliant: Pink Grapefruit & Glucomannan Extract.)

The next item is the GLAMGLOW Bubblesheet Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask (2-pack).  This brand is popular here in Dallas as you find it at many spas or Sephora. This tingling 3-D bubble experience includes microbubbles that instantly invigorate and detoxify the skin.  It is a fantastic mask when you really want to make your skin glow!  The retail price is $18.

The box includes a Skin&Co Roma Blue in Capri shower gel. This has a pretty fragrance that was inspired by lemon farmers in Capri, Italy. It is scented with lemon, wild sage, and alpine rose. As a bonus, you may use it as either a shower gel or to create a lovely bubble bath! The retail price is $22.

Another one of my favorite items is the BeautyBlender.  This is something that I didn't know that I needed until I tried it. If you follow regularly, you know that I never leave my house without wearing a good BB cream. I've always applied it with my finger tips.  After trying the BeautyBlender, I'll never go back!  It makes it much easier to evenly apply my makeup, including the sides of my nose and under my eyes.  This retails for $20.

Finally, my box contained a Touch in Sol Metallist Liquid Foil Lipstick Duo in "Penny".  I really like that it includes a glittery gloss on one end and then a metallic liquid on the other. A nice way to use it is to first line your lips with the liquid side and then wait 30 to 60 seconds before filling in the rest of your lips for a defined finish.  The retail price of this product is $24.99. (PS - Some readers receive this product or the Farmacy Dew It All Total Eye Cream or Cuccio Somatoxology Yogahhh! Detox Bath.)

In summary, the Fall 2018 FabFitFun box provides the opportunity to try trendy and high quality products at a steeply discounted price while also supporting Christina Applegate's foundation that helps women who have high genetic risk factors for breast cancer.  The FabFitFun team always does a fantastic job when they curate their boxes.  It's my favorite subscription box because it includes high quality items for the new season.
