Home Décor Tips for Homes and Apartments (Summer 2019)

Home is where the heart is.  We live in the Dallas area and love to shop for home décor. Apparently, we are not alone because I recently learned that Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington is ranked #1 on the list of Savviest Stylish Cities in the U.S. (Read the full report here.)  Whether you live in the heart of Texas or beyond, I'm excited to share home décor tips with you today since this is a fun topic that many people love. In particular, I'm excited to team up zulily to share home décor tips from their Lead Editorial Stylist for Home, Ashley Bowen.

Housing trends have changed over the years. The "American Dream" is no longer constrained to getting married at a young age and having 2 to 3 children in a house with a white picket fence. Gen Z and Millennials now marry and buy homes later in life than previous generations. Personal goals have broadened and many people focus more on happiness and living their #bestlife. I love the shift in demographics because there truly are many different ways to live life and to find happiness.

Another trend that I love is that many Gen Z and Millennials believe that home décor is an important part of living their #bestlife.  As mentioned earlier, home is where the heart is. It doesn't matter what stage of life you are in, creating a home environment that you love is important.  A recent survey by e-tailer zulily, found that whether renting (42.5%) or owning (40%), the majority of Americans agree they would spend the most money on home décor for their living room (over other rooms in their home).

Whether you are designing your living room or another room, zulily should be your first stop for designing your spaces! The reason that I am obsessed with zulily is that they launch a new store every day, featuring thousands of products, and their in-house creative studio team builds 100+ different “scenes” or “sets” every day, across 54 photo sets to help showcase products to our millions of customers. With expertise styling and staging hundreds of pieces of furniture, ranging from chairs to vintage tubs…not to mention their assortment of home décor merchandise - zulily is an expert resource when it comes to revamping any room. As someone who live is the #1 City on the list Savviest Stylish Cities in the U.S., I'll also add that zulily's prices are fantastic. I love the feeling of finding a good deal!

As promised, here are tips from Ashley Bowen, Zulily’s Lead Editorial Stylist for Home, on creative ways to decorate a home cost efficiently and effectively:
1. Freshen up your home with plants – living or faux, plants can add color and life to any space!
2. Bold colors and patterns are in! Spruce up your space with an accent wall- choose a bold color or wallpaper that speaks to you.
3. For a cost effective seasonal or holiday update, switch up your throws and accent pillows with on-trend prints and textures!

Finally, while I have focused a lot on how Gen Z and Millennials have changed the home décor landscape, I also want to share that home décor makes a difference for all generations.  My children are growing up quickly. Our home décor is in the background of most of our family photos. This includes photos on birthdays and holidays.  This includes videos of their first steps and opening gifts from Santa.  I love that zulily has the latest trends and great prices on items that make our home stylish and comfortable.
