Recipe: A Snowy Vegan Holiday Cocktail + Why We Love our Newair Countertop Ice Maker

Recipe: Snowy Vegan Holiday Cocktail

Ingredients

• 3 ounces of Oat Milk
• 2 ounces of Vodka
• 1 ounce of Amaretto
• 1/2 cup of ice (Spoiler alert: We make small ice cubes with the Newair 26 lbs. Countertop Ice Maker!)

Directions

1. Add 1/2 cup of ice to a glass.
2. Pour the oat milk, vodka, and amaretto to the glass and stir.
3. Enjoy!

Personally, we keep the The Newair 26 lbs. Countertop Ice Maker on our kitchen countertop when we have a party. This energetic ice maker will make up to 26 lbs. in a day! We fill it up in the morning and let it work its magic to make the ice.  Throughout the day, we empty the ice hopper into a bag that we store in the freezer and refill the water.  We've never actually needed a full 26 lbs. of ice for any of our parties, but it's nice to know that this hard working countertop ice maker has always made more than enough for our needs.  It's very convenient!

Finally, I should comment on efficiency. We actually have an ice maker built into our fridge, but it's slow and only makes large ice. When I say large ice, it's actually about 2x larger than the "large" setting on this countertop Ice Maker.  The ice maker on our refrigerator has an option for crushed ice, but it's loud and slow.  The ice maker on our refrigerator is meant for daily use but not for special occasions. The Newair 26 lbs. Countertop Ice Maker is much nicer because it makes smaller sized ice that is pretty in holiday cocktails and mocktails.  This countertop model is also able to make a larger volume of ice.

If you follow regularly, you know that I am an engineer and overthink everything. I think that you'll appreciate this though -- it's important to have a ballpark idea of how much it costs to run appliances.  This unit seems to have used approximately 2 amps per hour at our house. This converts to 240 watts. Your mileage will vary, but based on our current electric plan, this is approximately 2-cents per hour. This is cheaper than buying ice at our local Kroger at $1.99 for a 7 pound bag of ice. More importantly, it's nice to not have to transport bags of ice from the store to home! If you live in Texas, you know that transporting ice inconvenient, especially in the heat. We have to buy ice and put it into a cooler for our car ride home from the grocery store when it's hot. (It's currently December and today's high was in the 80's!) An at-home countertop ice maker is convenient!
