Fall is one of my favorite times of year to visit Six Flags Over Texas. There is just something magical about walking through the gates and seeing the entire park transformed for the season. The spooky decorations, Halloween details and festive atmosphere immediately put you in the mood for fall. And there is one sight my family looks forward to every year: the fountain that Six Flags colors to look like blood! It has become one of those little Halloween traditions for us. You know Halloween has arrived at Six Flags when you see that blood-red fountain.
We recently visited Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington for a fun media event, and this year we got an especially cool look at what happens behind the scenes to make all of these seasonal experiences happen.
And when I say all of these experiences, I mean A LOT goes into them.
We learned that planning for FrightFest, Oktoberfest and the kid-friendly Halloweek events began back in November 2025. That's months of brainstorming, pitching ideas, auditions, training, food development, entertainment planning, decorating and all of the details that eventually come together to create what guests experience. The months of planning are now live—or shall we say... alive!

Six Flags Over Texas offers several different fall experiences, so you can really tailor your visit to your family.
FrightFest brings haunted houses, mazes, spooky entertainment and nighttime thrills. Oktoberfest brings seasonal food, drinks and entertainment. And families with younger children can enjoy kid-friendly Halloween activities during the day, including Trick-or-Treating, pumpkin decorating, a hay bale maze and more.
That's one of the things I love most about fall at Six Flags: Halloween doesn't have to mean scary. Little kids can have a magical Halloween experience during the day, while older kids, teenagers and adults can stay into the evening for the scarier side of the season.

One of my favorite parts of our media event was hearing a panel of Six Flags employees talk about what happens behind the scenes.

FrightFest is Six Flags Over Texas' nighttime Halloween experience, featuring haunted houses, mazes, spooky entertainment and other thrills after dark.
And this is the part that really brings the crowds—and happens to be my teenagers' favorite.
I'm not going to spoil too many surprises because some things are much more fun when you experience them yourself.
But I will tell you this: go to the haunted houses and mazes.
These are iconic FrightFest experiences that you simply need to experience if you're a fan of Halloween scares.
My son and I felt like we were in completely different worlds when we entered the haunted house.
And then we had that same feeling when we went into Southern Palace for the murder mystery musical.
It's easy to see how much work goes into creating these experiences.
How Does Six Flags Create FrightFest?
The Six Flags team holds auditions for actors and actresses and provides in-house training. They pay meticulous attention to details throughout the experience, from the haunted houses and mazes to the musical shows, costumes and entertainment.
After hearing the employees talk about their work, it was easy to see how much they love their jobs.
That passion comes through.
You don't necessarily think about all of the people behind a haunted house when you're walking through it screaming, but there are teams of people who have spent months creating the experience.
And that's what makes it so much more impressive when you get a glimpse behind the curtain.
Don't Miss the Murder Mystery Musical
If you're visiting FrightFest, make time for the murder mystery musical at Southern Palace. I won't spoil the mystery, but here's what makes it especially fun: the audience is the jury. You get to vote for who you think is guilty, and your vote changes the outcome of the show. So the show you see may not have the same ending as the show I saw!
I love that kind of interactive entertainment because you're not simply watching a performance. You're actually part of it!
What New Ride Should You Try at Six Flags Over Texas?
Of course, all of the rides are fun, but if you're looking for a new thrill, you'll want to take a peek at Tormenta Rampaging Run.
It is a record-setting new attraction, so thrill-seekers will definitely want to check it out.
I'm going to let you decide how brave you are because just looking at it is enough to make me question my own life choices!
If you're a serious roller coaster fan, though, you'll definitely want to add it to your list.
What Is the Best Deal for Six Flags Over Texas?
If you're planning to visit Six Flags Over Texas more than once, I recommend looking at the season pass options because the value can really add up.
For local families, a season pass can be especially appealing because it can give you the opportunity to enjoy both Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor for year-round family fun.

Are Six Flags Meal and Drink Passes Worth It?
I also recommend looking at the season meal passes and season drink cups/passes.
These can be a phenomenal deal if you plan to visit throughout the year, and they make visits extra fun.
My kids and I have always loved looking forward to the food and drinks during our Six Flags visits. Sometimes getting our favorite food or trying a seasonal drink becomes part of what we're looking forward to just as much as the rides!

Go to the haunted houses and mazes. These are iconic FrightFest experiences. No spoilers—you need to experience them yourself!
Splurge on a special drink. Whether you choose an alcoholic FrightFest or Oktoberfest drink or one of the fun mocktails, the mixologists really delivered this year.
Plan time to eat. Whether you're craving Oktoberfest food or something a little more frightening, the executive chef rocked it this year.
Visit the gift shops. Six Flags has lots of great merchandise, so give yourself enough time to browse before heading home.
Dress for the weather. Texas fall weather can still be warm. On our visit, I wore shorts and a tank top while my son wore shorts and a T-shirt. If you're arriving earlier in the day, bring sunscreen and a hat.
Let your little ones wear their Halloween costumes. It makes the daytime experience even more fun and makes for adorable photos.
